The best robot hoover can clean and mop without requiring your attention, and it will leave your floors spotless. Its price is surprisingly low and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are great features.

Make sure you regularly inspect your robot's brushes for hair that is tangled and large particles and clean them as needed. Some models can also automatically empty their dust bin on board into a larger one at the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums that we have tested. They feature motors that are top-of-the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other premium iRobots (including the most powerful model) they utilize smart mapping to create detailed floor plans and eliminate household obstacles like cords and furniture leg. They also come with carpet boost, a feature that boosts the robot's performance when it detects an abundance of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept at cleaning dog hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a good deal for those whose home or office has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and operates while you're at work or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its smart cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also features a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover robot vacuum for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performing combination vacuum and mop makes use of advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it learns the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can modify the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mops. This helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is great for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the task of cleaning a whole home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did a good job cleaning a range of floors and rooms with various flooring types, such as some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it stayed clear of fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy units of the rivals. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful, but it will cost you more and produce more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, as well as washes and dries mop pads.

robot-vacuum-mops-logo-text-black-png-original.jpgThe smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium rivals. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however this was not foolproof in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the home based on how dirty the areas tend to be.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your home by using the app or voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you have a large furniture. Also, a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than the price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has a reciprocating motion, which does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to organize a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app has a range of features, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with an impressive 8000 Pascal suction, as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
